There’s less to celebrate if you were waiting for discounted business class from the United States. The August list does include three long-haul business-class destinations from Europe, but none is in North America. This month’s practical sweet spot is premium economy, followed by economy for travelers who care more about stretching their miles than sitting up front.
How Flying Blue Promo Rewards Work
Flying Blue releases a new collection of Promo Rewards on the first day of each month. Eligible Air France and KLM awards receive a discount of up to 25% from the program’s lowest regular award price.
The wording “starting from” matters. Flying Blue uses dynamic award pricing, so the advertised amount appears only when promotional inventory is available. One date may show 18,750 miles while the next shows a much higher number. The route can be included in the promotion without every flight on that route being cheap.
For long-haul Promo Rewards, the advertised itinerary can include a connection within Europe through Paris or Amsterdam. That means a traveler doesn’t necessarily need to stop in Paris or Amsterdam; the search may continue to another eligible European city on the same award.
The Best August Deals From North America
The public August list has five North American gateways with discounted economy awards. Air France economy awards between Europe and Dallas, New York-JFK, Phoenix and Seattle start at 18,750 Flying Blue miles one-way. KLM economy awards between Europe and Houston start at the same price.
That’s a savings of 6,250 miles from Flying Blue’s current 25,000-mile lowest standard economy price between Europe and most of North America. If promotional space appears in both directions, a round trip could start at 37,500 miles before taxes and carrier surcharges.
Premium economy is the more interesting part of this month’s list. KLM premium economy between Europe and Las Vegas, Mexico City, San Diego or San Francisco starts at 30,000 miles one-way.
Flying Blue’s lowest regular premium economy price on these routes is 40,000 miles, so the promotion saves 10,000 miles each way. A round trip could start at 60,000 miles instead of 80,000 when the lowest promotional inventory is available in both directions.
North American Promo Rewards:
- Air France economy: Dallas, New York-JFK, Phoenix and Seattle from 18,750 miles.
- KLM economy: Houston from 18,750 miles.
- KLM premium economy: Las Vegas, Mexico City, San Diego and San Francisco from 30,000 miles.
Search both directions separately. A route may have a promotional seat outbound but not on the return, and Flying Blue lets you combine different cabins or award prices when that produces the itinerary you need.
What About Business Class?
August doesn’t include a standard Promo Reward for business class between North America and Europe. The three public long-haul business-class offers are between Europe and Cayenne in French Guiana, Bogotá in Colombia and Libreville in Gabon, starting at 45,000 miles one-way.
Those can still be useful, especially for someone already traveling through Europe or building a larger trip. They’re less straightforward for a U.S.-based traveler because getting to Europe first may add another award, more taxes and additional connection risk.
Don’t force a complicated itinerary just because one segment is discounted. Compare the total miles, cash charges, positioning flights and travel time against a more direct award before deciding that 45,000 miles is automatically a bargain.
Book by August 31 and Travel Into January
The August Promo Rewards can be booked from August 1 through August 31, 2026, for eligible travel through January 31, 2027. That creates a useful window for fall travel, the winter holidays and part of the quieter January season.
The deadline doesn’t mean the lowest seats will remain available through August 31. Promo Rewards are capacity-controlled, and the best dates can disappear earlier. If you find a trip that works, price the complete itinerary and confirm the cancellation terms before waiting for a better date that may never appear.
Taxes, airport charges and carrier-imposed surcharges aren’t covered by miles. Compare the final cash portion with paid airfare, particularly in economy where an inexpensive cash sale can reduce the value of using miles.
Before transferring points: Confirm that the exact flight is still available at the advertised mileage price, review the cash charges and make sure every passenger can be booked. Transfers into Flying Blue are generally one-way, and the award may disappear while you’re waiting for points to arrive.
Flying Blue Extra Has Three Additional U.S. Routes
Flying Blue now reserves some Promo Rewards for subscribers to its paid Flying Blue Extra program. For August, Extra subscribers can access additional economy promotions between Europe and Los Angeles or Orlando on Air France, and Miami on KLM, starting at 18,750 miles one-way.
Flying Blue Extra starts at €379 per year. That’s too much to spend casually for one discounted economy award. The exclusive pricing should be treated as one benefit in a broader membership calculation, not a reason to subscribe before confirming the seats and savings you’ll actually use.
The standard premium economy routes and the three 45,000-mile business-class destinations don’t require Flying Blue Extra.
