Well, here we go again.

Another 100,000-point credit card offer has entered the chat, and this time it’s the premium Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite card from Bank of America.

The headline number is obviously going to get most of the attention, because 100,000 points looks great in big bold letters. And to be fair, it is a very strong offer.

But this is not one of those “spend a couple thousand dollars and collect a giant pile of points” situations. The spending requirement is $6,500 in 90 days, and the card comes with a $395 annual fee.

So before anyone starts throwing applications around like Mardi Gras beads, let’s take a closer look at what you’re actually getting.

The Current Welcome Offer

That is a lot of value packed into one welcome offer, especially if you already know how you want to use Atmos Rewards points.

It is also a lot of spending in a fairly short period of time.

If $6,500 fits naturally into your normal household or business spending, great. If you’re going to start buying random things you don’t need just to hit the bonus, that’s where the deal starts getting less attractive very quickly.

What Is the Global Companion Award?

The welcome offer includes a 25,000-point Global Companion Award.

In plain English, that award can reduce the number of points needed for a companion traveling with you on the same eligible award itinerary.

The card also provides another 25,000-point Global Companion Award on each account anniversary. Cardholders who spend at least $60,000 in a year can receive a 100,000-point Global Companion Award.

One important detail: if your companion’s award costs less than the value of the certificate, you do not get the unused portion back. This is not a bank of points that you can split across several trips.

Use it well, or leave some value on the table. Those are the choices.

The Card’s Ongoing Benefits

The Summit card includes quite a few ongoing travel benefits:

• Eight Alaska Lounge passes each calendar year, issued as two per quarter
• 10,000 Atmos status points on each account anniversary
• One status point for every $2 spent on the card
• Free checked bag and preferred boarding for the cardholder and up to six guests on the same eligible reservation
• Up to a $120 TSA PreCheck or Global Entry statement credit every four years
• A $50 travel delay credit following an eligible cancellation or delay of at least two hours
• Waived partner award booking fees
• Waived same-day confirmed change fees on eligible Alaska flights

The card earns three points per dollar on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases, Hawaiian Airlines purchases, dining, and qualifying foreign transactions. Everything else earns one point per dollar.

Cardholders with an eligible Bank of America account can also receive a 10% rewards bonus on points earned through card purchases.

Who Is This Offer Best For?

This card makes the most sense for someone who:

• Can comfortably complete the $6,500 spending requirement
• Already uses or plans to use Atmos Rewards points
• Flies Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines with some regularity
• Can make use of the lounge passes
• Has a realistic plan for the Global Companion Award
• Values the annual status points or is actively pursuing Atmos elite status

If most of those benefits are going to sit untouched, then you’re probably paying $395 for a big welcome bonus and not much else.

That can still work for the first year, but it’s not the same thing as finding a long-term keeper card.

Is the $395 Annual Fee Worth It?

For the first year, the welcome offer makes the math much easier.

You’re getting 100,000 points, a 25,000-point companion award, and a 50% flight discount code. That is a substantial package of benefits before we even start counting lounge passes, free checked bags, or the other travel perks.

The more important question comes later.

When the second annual fee hits, will you still be getting at least $395 of real value from the card?

Not “marketing value.” Not “I guess I could technically use this someday” value. Actual value.

That answer is going to be different for everyone.

A Few Things to Watch

There are a couple of details worth keeping in mind before applying.

First, the offer is listed as limited-time, and Bank of America notes that it may not be available elsewhere if you leave the page.

Second, make sure the exact offer you expect is displayed before submitting your application. There have been several different Summit offers floating around, including versions with different spending requirements and different bonus packages.

Take screenshots. Save the offer terms. Keep the confirmation page.

You know the drill.

Getting to the Point(s)

The Atmos Rewards Summit card’s current 100,000-point offer is strong.

It might even be excellent for the right traveler.

But the $6,500 spending requirement and $395 annual fee mean this is not a universal recommendation.

If you can meet the spending requirement naturally, understand how you’ll use the points, and can take advantage of the companion award and travel benefits, this one deserves a serious look.

If you’re mostly reacting to the giant 100,000-point number, take a breath and run the math first.

The goal is to earn more points, not create a $6,500 problem for yourself.
