Update: American Airlines Is Clawing Back the 25,000 Miles

Update — July 10, 2026: American Airlines has begun emailing members who registered for AAdvantage Business through the free 25,000-mile promotion and later received the bonus. According to the notice, American says some participating accounts did not meet the promotion’s eligibility requirements, so the previously deposited 25,000 AAdvantage miles are being removed.

As a consolation for the miles having been deposited in error, American says affected members will receive 5,000 AAdvantage miles in their AAdvantage Business accounts.

The notice also says mileage transfers from AAdvantage Business accounts to personal AAdvantage accounts completed on July 8, July 9, or before 10:30 a.m. CST on July 10, 2026, will be reversed. Anyone who transferred miles during that window will need to submit the transfer again.

Bottom line: If you participated in this offer, check both your email and your AAdvantage Business balance. The 25,000-mile bonus may be clawed back, but American appears to be providing a 5,000-mile consolation bonus to affected members.

Email Sent to Affected Members

American Airlines says the 25,000-mile promotional bonus is being removed from affected accounts, with 5,000 miles awarded instead.
Quick Deal Check: American Airlines offered 25,000 AAdvantage miles to some new AAdvantage Business accounts using code JOINA7. American is now emailing affected members to say the 25,000 miles are being removed, with 5,000 miles being provided as a consolation bonus instead.

Well, this is one of those fun little points and miles moments where the answer is basically: try it quickly, screenshot everything, and don’t yell at me if the airline decides to pull the rug out from underneath us.

American Airlines’ AAdvantage Business program has been making the rounds again thanks to a reported promo code, JOINA7, that was offering 25,000 AAdvantage miles for new business account registrations.

That’s a pretty healthy chunk of miles for something that should take a few minutes to attempt, especially because AAdvantage Business itself is free to join. But there’s a catch — because of course there is. Recent reader reports from around the points and miles world suggest the bonus may no longer be posting reliably.

So, let’s talk about what this is, who should care, and how I’d approach it today.

What Is AAdvantage Business?

AAdvantage Business is American Airlines’ business rewards program. It’s separate from your personal AAdvantage account, and the basic idea is pretty simple:

  • Your business can earn AAdvantage miles on eligible American Airlines business travel.
  • Registered travelers can earn additional Loyalty Points.
  • The program is free to join.
  • It can be useful for small business owners, consultants, freelancers, side hustlers, and anyone with legitimate business travel activity.

Think of it like a bonus layer on top of normal AAdvantage earning. You’re not giving up your personal miles. You’re potentially adding another rewards bucket to the mix.

And around here, we like extra rewards buckets. We like them very much.

The Reported JOINA7 Promo

The deal that caught everyone’s attention was a promo code for new AAdvantage Business accounts:

  • Promo code: JOINA7
  • Reported bonus: 25,000 AAdvantage miles
  • Reported expiration: July 31, 2026
  • Cost to join: Free
  • Current concern: Some reports now say the bonus may no longer be posting

That last bullet is the big one.

In a perfect world, this would be a very easy “go do this right now” post. But points and miles promos don’t always live in a perfect world. Sometimes they live in a haunted little spreadsheet with broken links, silent terms, and customer service reps who have absolutely no idea what the internet is talking about.

That means this is probably worth trying if you qualify, but I would not treat the 25,000 miles as guaranteed just yet.

Who Should Consider Trying This?

This probably makes the most sense if you have a legitimate business or side business, but don't count yourself out if you don't fall into one of those two buckets.

The business types in quetsion could include:

  • A formal small business
  • A consulting business
  • A content business
  • A rental property business
  • A side hustle with real business activity
  • A sole proprietorship

I’m not telling anyone to create a make believe business just to chase a promo. That’s not the game. But if you already have legitimate business activity, this is the kind of easy registration that can be worth checking.

How I’d Try It

If you're giving this a try today, keep it simple:

  1. Go to the AAdvantage Business registration page.
  2. Start a new business account registration.
  3. Enter promo code JOINA7 if there’s a promo code field available.
  4. Take screenshots before submitting anything.
  5. Save any confirmation emails.
  6. Do not count the 25,000 miles as yours until they actually post (Although, this should be instant).

That last step is the one that saves you from future sadness. Until miles are in the account, they’re imaginary internet confetti.

Important Update: American Airlines is now clawing back the 25,000-mile bonus from at least some participants it says did not meet the promotion’s eligibility requirements. Affected members are being told they will receive 5,000 AAdvantage miles instead.

Is 25,000 AAdvantage Miles Actually Useful?

Absolutely. That’s why this one got attention so quickly.

American miles can still be very useful, especially for partner awards. Depending on availability, 25,000 miles can get you a meaningful one-way domestic flight, help top off an account for a larger redemption, or move you closer to something much better on a partner airline.

No, 25,000 miles probably isn’t sending your entire family to Europe in lie-flat seats while someone feeds you grapes. But for a free signup bonus? We’ll take it. We’ll take it with both hands and a boarding pass.

Getting to the Point(s)

This is one of those quick-hit opportunities that I think is worth checking, but only with the right expectations.

If the JOINA7 code still works for you and the 25,000 miles post, fantastic. That’s a great little win for a few minutes of effort.

If it doesn’t work, don’t spend three hours yelling into the void. The current reports are already mixed enough that I’d treat this more like a “worth a shot” deal than a “guaranteed payday” deal.

Either way, if you have legitimate business activity and you fly American even occasionally, AAdvantage Business itself is still worth knowing about. Extra earning layers are the name of the game, and this one costs nothing to set up.

As always, promos can change, die, reappear, or post differently than expected. Verify current terms before relying on any offer, and never make financial or travel decisions based solely on a bonus that has not posted yet.
