The word up to is doing real work. Most members will receive between 25% and 45%, Platinum members start at 75%, and only Platinum members who spend $200 in Bilt Cash can unlock the full 100% rate.
That doesn’t make the promotion bad. Even the smaller bonuses can reduce the Bilt Points needed for a reward you’re already prepared to book. But this is a one-day, irreversible decision—not a reason to turn flexible points into Virgin Points because a large percentage looks exciting.
What Each Bilt Status Tier Gets
The promotion is available on September 1, 2026, for transfers to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or Virgin Red. Current reporting says the bonus applies to as many as 150,000 Bilt Points transferred during the offer.
September 1 Virgin Transfer Rates:

How the $200 Bilt Cash Upgrade Works
Members can use $200 in Bilt Cash to move up one promotional bonus tier. Blue moves from 25% to Silver’s 35%, Silver moves from 35% to Gold’s 45%, and Gold moves from 45% to Platinum’s 75%. Platinum doesn’t have another published status tier, so its $200 boost raises the bonus from 75% to 100%.
The upgrade changes only this September 1 transfer bonus. It doesn’t change the member’s actual Bilt status.
Here’s what the buy-up adds on a 20,000-point transfer:
- Blue to Silver rate: 27,000 Virgin Points instead of 25,000—a gain of 2,000.
- Silver to Gold rate: 29,000 instead of 27,000—a gain of 2,000.
- Gold to Platinum rate: 35,000 instead of 29,000—a gain of 6,000.

That makes the Blue and Silver buy-ups difficult to justify for a modest transfer. Spending $200 in Bilt Cash for only 2,000 additional Virgin Points is a steep trade when Bilt Cash also has uses for housing points, dining, travel and other Bilt benefits.
Gold and Platinum members receive a larger lift, but “larger” isn’t the same as “automatic yes.” Compare the extra Virgin Points with the Bilt Cash you’ll give up and the specific reward those points will complete.
Find the Break-Even Transfer Size
The difference between the regular and upgraded rate tells you how quickly the extra points accumulate:
- Blue and Silver gain an extra 10 percentage points, or 1,000 additional Virgin Points per 10,000 Bilt Points transferred.
- Gold gains an extra 30 percentage points, or 3,000 additional Virgin Points per 10,000 transferred.
- Platinum gains an extra 25 percentage points, or 2,500 additional Virgin Points per 10,000 transferred.
Don’t assign those additional points a made-up cash value just to make the upgrade work. Start with the reward you can book, then decide whether the incremental points save enough Bilt Points—or finish an award that matters enough—to justify spending the Bilt Cash.
Why Virgin Points Can Be Useful
Virgin Points can be used through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club for Virgin Atlantic reward seats and eligible partner flights. When Virgin Red and Flying Club accounts are linked, Virgin says the points appear as one shared balance. Virgin Red also offers non-flight rewards across the broader Virgin ecosystem, and Virgin says the points don’t expire.
Virgin Atlantic now prices its own reward seats dynamically. Its official page says every seat can be bought with Virgin Points when available, with the points price changing based on demand. The lowest-priced Saver rewards currently begin at 6,000 points one way, but that’s a starting price—not a promise that your route or date will price there.
Reward tickets also require cash for taxes, fees and carrier-imposed charges. Those amounts can materially change the redemption value, especially in premium cabins and on itineraries involving the United Kingdom.
That’s why the transfer calculation needs both sides of the reservation. A 75% bonus looks excellent until a high cash surcharge makes a paid ticket or another loyalty program the better choice.
Don’t transfer speculatively: Bilt says completed partner transfers can’t be reversed. Most transfers are immediate, but Bilt advises allowing up to 48 hours. Virgin reward space, points prices and cash charges can change while the transfer is processing. Search the exact flight for the correct number of travelers, inspect every segment and have a realistic backup use for the points.
Work Backward From the Award You Need
Suppose a confirmed reward requires 50,000 Virgin Points and your Virgin balance is zero. The transfer bonus changes the approximate Bilt Points needed:

However, Bilt’s publicly indexed September announcement focuses on its Global Citizen partnership and doesn’t reproduce the complete transfer-bonus terms. The logged-in Bilt offer and transfer screen should therefore control details such as eligibility, the exact promotional window, bonus rounding and how the cap is applied if a member transfers to both Virgin destinations.
Getting to the Point(s)
Bilt’s September Virgin bonus can be useful, but the headline rate belongs to a narrow group. Blue, Silver and Gold members receive 25%, 35% and 45%. Platinum members receive 75%, and the full 100% requires another $200 in Bilt Cash.
