American Airlines appears ready to make a very large investment in the ground experience at its most important hub.

According to a report from View from the Wing, American is planning a roughly 37,000-square-foot Admirals Club in Terminal C at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The airline also plans to bring its newer Provisions by Admirals Club grab-and-go concept to Terminal F, which is currently being developed as part of DFW’s multibillion-dollar expansion.

The numbers are certainly attention-grabbing. A 37,000-square-foot club would be enormous by Admirals Club standards and would reportedly become the largest location in American’s network.

For travelers, though, the more useful part of this story is not simply how many square feet American can put on a press release. It is whether these facilities can make a connection at DFW easier, less crowded and a little more comfortable.

What American Is Reportedly Planning at DFW

The newly reported plans involve two different lounge concepts in two different terminals:

• Terminal C: A new Admirals Club measuring approximately 37,000 square feet.
• Terminal F: A Provisions by Admirals Club location designed for travelers who want food, drinks or assistance without spending a long time in a traditional lounge.

American has not yet published a detailed announcement describing the complete amenity list, opening timeline or exact locations within the terminals.

The Terminal C club is expected to use the newer Admirals Club design language that American first introduced at Washington Reagan National Airport and has since brought to additional locations.

That newer style generally feels warmer and more residential than some of American’s older clubs, using softer lighting, wood finishes, local design elements and more clearly separated spaces for dining, working and relaxing.

Why a 37,000-Square-Foot Admirals Club Matters

DFW is not just another station in American’s network. It is the airline’s largest and most critical hub, handling a huge share of American’s connecting traffic.

American already operates lounge facilities across DFW’s terminals, including Admirals Clubs and its more premium Flagship Lounge in Terminal D. Even with those options, crowding can become a real problem during busy travel periods, weather disruptions and large banks of connecting flights.

A new club with approximately 37,000 square feet could provide substantially more room than a typical Admirals Club. The benefit will depend on how that space is arranged, but a larger footprint could support:

• More seating during peak departure periods
• Better separation between quiet, dining and work areas
• Additional food-and-beverage stations
• More restrooms and charging access
• Dedicated family or relaxation areas
• More room to absorb travelers during operational disruptions

Of course, a giant lounge can still feel crowded if it is poorly designed or if access grows faster than capacity. Square footage is only one part of the equation.

Food quality, staffing, cleanliness, seating layout and access enforcement will ultimately determine whether the new club feels like a meaningful upgrade or just a very large waiting room.

What Is Provisions by Admirals Club?

Provisions is American’s answer for travelers who have lounge access but do not have enough time—or any real desire—to sit inside a full Admirals Club.

The concept offers a quicker stop for packaged meals, snacks, drinks and travel assistance. It is aimed at people making short connections, arriving at the airport close to boarding or simply wanting something to take onto the plane.

American opened its first Provisions location in Charlotte and has announced another location at New York-JFK. The planned DFW Terminal F location would further expand the concept.

The concept makes quite a bit of sense at DFW. American schedules flights in large connecting banks, and not every traveler has 45 minutes to settle into a lounge.

Sometimes you have enough time to walk in, grab a sandwich and head right back out. Provisions is intended to handle that type of visit without adding another guest to the seating competition inside a full-service club.

Do Not Assume It Will Be an Unlimited Buffet

The existing Charlotte Provisions location has reportedly limited guests to one primary prepared food item per visit, although smaller self-service snacks and drinks may be available separately.

American could use different policies at DFW, and no final food or quantity rules have been announced for the Terminal F location.

The takeaway is simple: think of Provisions as a convenient included meal or snack—not a place to fill an entire carry-on with food for the week.

How Will Travelers Access the New Lounges?

American has not announced separate access rules for the planned DFW facilities.

Unless the airline creates a new policy, the most reasonable expectation is that the Admirals Club and Provisions location will use the standard Admirals Club access framework.

Current ways travelers may qualify for Admirals Club access include:

• An eligible Admirals Club membership
• The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®
• An eligible one-day pass, when accepted
• Qualifying premium-cabin travel on eligible international or transcontinental itineraries
• Qualifying AAdvantage or oneworld elite status when traveling on an eligible international itinerary
• Certain qualifying military travel circumstances

Travelers should always verify access directly with American before relying on it. Same-day itinerary requirements, guest allowances, eligible routes and one-day-pass acceptance can vary.

A club may also temporarily stop accepting one-day passes when it reaches capacity.

Do You Need to Be Departing From the Same Terminal?

Generally, no. DFW’s terminals are connected inside security by the Skylink train, allowing eligible travelers to visit a lounge in a different terminal without clearing security again.

That flexibility is useful, but you still need to leave enough time to travel back to your departure gate. Skylink itself is quick, although walking to the station, waiting for the train and reaching a distant gate can add meaningful time.

A lounge in another terminal may make sense during a long connection. It is usually not worth turning a short layover into an airport obstacle course just to grab a drink and fifteen minutes of lounge time.

The planned Terminal F Provisions location could be especially helpful for passengers departing from the new terminal who would otherwise need to travel elsewhere for lounge access.

Terminal C Is Already Being Rebuilt

The new Admirals Club would be part of a much broader transformation of Terminal C.

American and DFW recently opened a new Terminal C pier with nine modernized boarding gates. Four are net-new gates, while five replaced gates affected by the expansion.

The new pier includes electronic boarding gates, new concessions, higher ceilings, larger windows, updated seating and modern restrooms. American says the pier provides an early look at what travelers can expect as the rest of Terminal C is rebuilt over the next several years.

That context matters. The lounge is not being dropped into an otherwise unchanged terminal. It appears to be one piece of a full modernization of American’s busiest DFW facility.

Terminal F Will Be a Major Expansion

The planned Provisions location is expected to sit in DFW’s future Terminal F.

American and DFW expanded the Terminal F project in 2025, increasing the planned investment to approximately $4 billion. The broader plan calls for 31 gates, additional space for international operations, a walking connection to Terminal D, a new Skylink station, check-in and baggage facilities, premium space and a dedicated parking garage.

The original first phase is scheduled to begin operating in 2027, with additional enhancements expected afterward.

American plans to occupy all Terminal F gates, making the terminal an important part of its future DFW operation rather than a small overflow facility.

A grab-and-go lounge fits naturally into that plan. Terminal F will handle a large number of American passengers, and many will be connecting rather than beginning their trips in Dallas.

American Is Spending More on Its Lounge Experience

The DFW plans also fit into American’s broader push to improve its premium travel experience.

The airline has refreshed Admirals Club designs, announced new or expanded clubs and upgraded lounge dining across its network.

Recent Flagship Lounge dining changes include more à la carte dishes, seasonal small plates, expanded wine options and QR-code ordering. Admirals Clubs have also received expanded hot-food selections and refreshed menus.

American has additional lounge projects planned or underway in cities including Austin, Nashville and New York.

Whether all of that is enough to close the perceived experience gap with Delta and United is another discussion. Still, it is clear that American is placing more attention on premium ground facilities than it did several years ago.

What Is Still Unknown?

There are several important details American has not publicly confirmed:

• The opening date for the Terminal C Admirals Club
• The opening date for the Terminal F Provisions location
• The exact locations or nearby gate numbers
• Whether the 37,000-square-foot measurement represents guest space or the total leased footprint
• The Terminal C club’s final seating capacity
• Whether it will include showers, private rooms or specialty dining
• The specific food and beverage program at DFW Provisions
• Whether either location will use modified access rules

Those details will determine how useful the facilities are in practice.

A 37,000-square-foot lounge sounds impressive, but I am more interested in how many travelers it can comfortably handle, whether there are enough outlets, what the food looks like and whether I can find a reasonably quiet seat during a stormy afternoon at DFW.

Getting to the Point(s)

American’s reported DFW lounge plans look promising.

A 37,000-square-foot Admirals Club could provide badly needed additional capacity at American’s largest hub, particularly as Terminal C is rebuilt and expanded. The Provisions location in Terminal F could also become a practical option for travelers with short connections who do not need the full lounge experience.

There is still a lot we do not know. American has not published opening dates, final amenity lists or detailed access information for either location.

For now, I would treat this as a meaningful sign of where American is investing rather than something to plan a trip around. The physical facilities are coming, but the details that determine whether travelers actually love them are still ahead.
